Britain's Olympic Hockey Team Seeing Red

Great Britain's Olympic hockey team, who are currently based in Macau, Hong Kong, have been testing out red colored contact lenses to give them an edge in the Olympics by improving their vision. The eyewear is supposed to help in bright conditions that may ordinarily cause glare.

Skipper Kate Walsh said, "They're like sunglasses, but as a contact lens, so it just prevents glare. Both the goalkeepers like to wear them and a couple of the girls do on a really bright day so you're not squinting a lot, which can cause headaches."

But, brightness might not be a problem in the Olympics. Blankets of smog cover Beijing, reducing visibility to a mere few hundred meters. Despite this however, at such a high level of competition that the Olympics provides, any potential added benefit can give one the added edge one needs to succeed.
